How the Nenky System Works
If you worked in Japan and have since left the country, you may be eligible to recover your lump-sum pension refund and the additional 20% tax withheld by the Japanese government. While many people successfully claim the initial pension payment, most never recover the withheld tax because it requires a separate filing process through a designated tax agent in Japan.

Confirm Your Eligibility
Before starting the process, Please confirm that you meet the basic requirements for a Japan pension withdrawal and tax recovery.
You may be eligible if:
- You previously worked in Japan
- You contributed to the Japanese pension system for at least 6 months
- You have permanently left Japan
- You are not currently living in Japan
Once eligibility is confirmed, you can begin the secure application process.
Submit Your Information Securely
Next, you'll complete a secure online application where we collect the information required to process your claim.
You'll be asked to upload several documents, which may include:
- Passport copy
- Residence card
- Pension book or pension number
- Bank account information
- Additional supporting documents if required
Your documents are submitted securely and used only for the purpose of processing your pension and tax refund.

Sign the Authorization Documents
After you submit your information, our team prepares the required pension forms and mails them to you for a final signature.
Along with the pension documents, you will also receive a Tax Agent Authorization form. Japanese law requires a designated tax representative in order to recover the remaining 20% withheld from your pension payment for taxes. By signing this form, Nenky is authorized to act on your behalf when filing the tax refund.
Once these signed documents are returned to us, we will submit them and handle all communication related to your pension claim and tax recovery.

Receive Your Pension Refund
After the application is submitted to the Japan Pension Service, the lump-sum pension payment is processed.
This portion is worth 80% of your return and is deposited directly into your bank account.
You receive this payment in full.

Receive Your Tax Refund
Once your lump-sum pension payment has been received, we begin the process of recovering the remaining 20% that was withheld for taxes. This typically takes an additional 2–3 months after the lump-sum has been deposited into your bank account.
Nenky deducts its service fee from this tax refund, and the remaining amount is transferred to you.
